Alan Walmsley G2HIO - Silent Key

It is with great sadness we report the passing of Alan Walmsley G2HIO,

of Derby. He was a SNADARC member and a generous contributor with his
donations to the club junk sales.
He was a leading figure in Amsat UK (the Amateur Satellite Group) and a former
Professor of Mining Engineering
at Derby University.
He died on New Year's Day - he will be sadly missed.

Sherwood Observatory Visit

A visit to Sherwood Observatory, Coxmoor Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield,
has been arranged for 9th February.
The arrangements are to all meet at the Observatory at 7.00pm.

New Amateur Radio Courses For 2009

The club is pleased to announce that a Foundation Course and Examination
will be held over the weekend of  7th – 8th March 2009  at The Post Mill Centre
(Formerly Village Hall Community Centre), Market Street, South Normanton, Derbyshire.

Times

Saturday 7th March:-  Start 1.00pm – 5.00pm Finish
Sunday 8th March:-  Start 10.00am – 5.30pm Finish

(approximate finish times dependent on examinations)

Also

 Intermediate and Advanced examinations will take place on 1st April 2009
at the Glebe Junior School,  The Hamlet,  South Normanton, Derbyshire.
 External students welcome.  Please note that external students for the Intermediate Examination must produce a completed achievement card dated and signed 
by a Lead Instructor/

New 7MHz (40 M) Band Plan Begins 29th March 2009

At the recent International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Region 1 Conference
in Cavtat, Croatia, a new band plan was adopted for the 7MHz (40 Metres)
band to be effective from 29 March 2009. 

This is the date by which broadcast stations will have vacated the whole of 
7MHz (40 Metres). The band then becomes an amateur primary allocation
in accordance with the decision of World Radio Conference 2003.

Recent Foundation Licence Successes

We are pleased to announce that 5 more Foundation Licence
candidates have qualified and received their callsigns.


Peter Hemsley

It is with sadness we report that Peter Hemsley has passed away 
recently after his brave five month battle with cancer.
A floral tribute was sent on behalf of the club and members were also in
attendance at the funeral service at Mansfield Crematorium.


New Name for Village Hall


The name of South Normanton Village Hall has now been changed
 to "The Post Mill", in memory of the ancient wooden windmill that used to
stand in the village.


Night On The Air

The next Night on The Air will be at Crich Stand War Memorial,
 Plaistow Green Road, located adjacent to Crich Tramway Museum.
Access top Crich Stand is through a gate off Plaistow Green Road.
 Crich, near Matlock in Derbyshire DE4 5GX.
Meeting about 7.00pm onwards on Monday 14th July.
