New Event Shelter

The club took advantage of an ‘end of season’ sale to purchase an inflatable Gazebo. This replaces a ten-year-old steel framed Event Shelter, of a similar size, which took two, or preferably four, members twenty to thirty minutes to erect. The new shelter takes less than ten minutes with several helpers but was light enough that it could have been done by one in a similar time. It was immediately used to protect from extreme sun and the following week from rain. It seems just as sturdy but only time will tell

UPDATED

The club is very sad to report on the passing of John Davidson M0JYD on July 14th after a long battle with cancer. He became a very active member and his positive attitude will be missed. He was also known in other restoration hobbies for his skills winding high voltage coils and motors for obsolete machinery such as steam engines and generators. Our thoughts are with his brother, club member Rob G1XJM and all their family.

The funeral will be on 29th August 2023  at 1pm in St Martins church, Alfreton.

Ripley scouts

In preparation for this years  scouting Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) in October members of the club visited Ripley Scouts at their HQ on a lovely summers evening. Alan M0OLT, Nigel G6MRN & Lyn G0NNU  talked about amateur radio and then demonstrated their rigs, giving  the scouts a chance to hear a call to Belgium on HF and to talk on VHF. Thanks especially to Frank 2E1EVH for his encouragement on the other end which turned into a fun evening. We look forward to working with the scouts for JOTA
